jen & jon : married

Jen and Jon are both coworkers of mine and two of the nicest people I have the pleasure of working with, so it only seems natural that they got together.  Last summer a bunch of us ladies from my office got together for a girls night out and it was then that I had worked up the nerve to ask Jen if I could photograph an engagement session of them for practice.  Jen told me she wasn’t so sure about the idea, that neither of them liked having their pictures taken.  But then it was like a lightbulb lit up over Jen’s head.  She told me that she was planning on asking one of our old coworkers, Derek,  to photograph their wedding.  She told me that she would ask him if I could shadow him on their wedding day.  Shut.  The.  Front.  Door.  Was she really serious!?  She was, and a few months ago she asked Derek if I could tag along.  He happily agreed and I was absolutely giddy.

Derek left our company several years ago to pursue photography professionally and has been kickin butt and takin names ever since.  You can take a look at some of his work here .  Derek, I know I probably annoyed you to your very core with all my gratitude, but I really can’t thank you enough.  I learned so much in that one day and it was an awesome experience.

I had such a great time at the wedding.  Not only did I get to shadow a professional wedding photographer, I also got to party it up with the rest of the guests.  It was the absolute best of both worlds and this was hands down one of the best weddings I’ve been to.  The whole entire day was filled with laughter and love.  What’s better than that?

Derek was inside the church taking what I can only assume was a fabulous, backlit silhouette shot.  Meanwhile I snuck this one from the outside.

Meet Quixote, their beardog.  Believe it or not this guy is still only a pup, not even 2 years old yet.  Does anyone else get the feeling that he’s looking at me like I’m a Milkbone?

It was about 3 bajillion degrees out that afternoon but Jen knew how to cool down.

We were specifically told that we were not allowed to tell Jen how gorgeous she looked that day.  She did not, however, say anything about the days after her wedding.  Jen, you can interoffice me all the hate mail you want but you were absolutely stunning.

These are both of Jen’s Maids of Honor, her sister (left) and best friend (right).  I think it’s so cool that she had two.  Who says you have to pick just one?

I snapped this one while Franny, Jen’s best friend, gave her toast.  Franny spoke of friendship and love, and the wonderful things that can happen when those two worlds collide.  Jen & Jon are evidence of that.jen&jon_0401_edited-1009

The rings.

There was a guestbook to sign and one of the guests drew this adorable cartoon that says “And they lived happily ever after…”

This is another one of our coworkers, John, who decided to hop on the bar after the actual bartenders shift ended.  Let me tell you, this man can make a mean gin and tonic.  And trust me, I know my gin and tonics.

Partway through the evening Jen and Jon gave a quick little speech thanking everyone for coming and sharing in their special day.  They then gave specific instructions for everyone to Wang Chung that night.  They weren’t kidding and I think everyone did an exceptional job.  Of course it helped to change out of those stuffy, formal wedding clothes.

Jen and Jon – thank you so much for one of the most amazing opportunities ever, not to mention one rockin wedding!  I hope the rest of your lives together are just like your wedding day, filled with laughter and love.

I know, I know.  Bad blogger!  I’m sorry it’s been so long since my first post, but I’m blaming it on my crazy schedule.  And the weather.  And my irrational fear of blogging.  And my fish, Hank.  Hey, that’s what pets are for, right?  To blame things on?

Anyways, here’s a sneak peek of Jen & Jon’s wedding where I was oh-so-lucky to be able to shadow their photographer as well as be a guest at.  More to come so check back soon!
